Why We Built This Site
Illinois gives the public broad access to court files under court rules and the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140). The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The Circuit Clerk handles civil, criminal, family, traffic, probate, and small-claims case files for the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit. The County Clerk and Recorder runs marriage licenses, vital records, deeds, and recorded land documents. The Sheriff's Office at Woodstock manages the jail roster and active warrants. Add the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Secretary of State driver record, and the picture gets crowded fast. We pull the contact details, search portals, fee schedules, and request steps for each of these offices into one place.

The Local Courts We Cover
McHenry County sits in a single-county judicial circuit, the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit. The Circuit Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in Illinois, and McHenry's Circuit Court hears felonies, misdemeanors, civil cases, divorce, parentage, juvenile matters, probate estates, guardianships, evictions, foreclosures, small claims, and traffic citations. Appeals run to the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District. The Circuit Clerk maintains the official case index at the Woodstock courthouse, while the Sheriff's corrections operation on the same government center campus holds custody data for people booked into the McHenry County jail.
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site. We have no connection to the McHenry County Circuit Clerk, the County Clerk and Recorder, the Sheriff's Office, the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit, or the State of Illinois. There are real limits to what we can help with:
- We cannot file paperwork or send records requests on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any court document or vital record
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific case applies to you
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office in Woodstock or to the right Illinois state agency, but the document has to come from them.
Search Partners
Some pages on this site include search boxes powered by third-party providers. Those companies set their own pricing and run their own services. When you use one of those tools and it leads to a paid signup, we may earn a referral fee. That revenue helps keep this site free for visitors. We do not control what those tools charge or what shows up in their results.
Keeping Information Current
Clerk offices move. Hours change. Phone numbers get reassigned. We update pages as we hear about changes in McHenry County, but gaps happen. Before you drive to the Woodstock courthouse, call ahead first.
